Renzo Musumeci Greco

Fencing Master

Renzo Musumeci Greco represents the fourth generation of a family dedicated to the world of performing arts. His first appearance was at the start of the 1970s and since then he has collaborated with more than 100 performances of every genre: opera, prose, cinema, fiction, television programmes, advertisements, stage, recreation of historical periods etc.

From 1996, after a number of stage designs with Amedeo Amodio for the ballet (1987), he began an intense collaboration with the most important directors, orchestra conductors and Italian opera societies, including all of the best classics of the operatic repertoire. In 1996 he worked in Carmen directed by Keith Warner, for the Teatro Regio in Turin. For the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, under the baton of Maestro Riccardo Muti and directed by Hugo De Ana, he prepared the duels in La Forza del destino (1999) with José Cura and in Il Trovatore (2000). In 2001 again in Il Trovatore, at the Arena di Verona conducted by Maestro Daniel Oren and directed by Franco Zeffirelli and Otello, conducted by Riccardo Muti with direction by Graham Vick, with Placido Domingo at the Teatro alla Scala. In 2002 with Hugo De Ana he worked on Lucrezia Borgia, at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and in 2003 Faust at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome. Again in 2003 he collaborated in Lucia di Lammermoor, directed by Graham Vick at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome and in Carmen, at the Thermal Baths of Caracalla in Rome.

He collaborated, also, for prose with the most important Italian directors and actors, among which Domenico Modugno, Carmelo Bene, Marco Bellocchio, Gabriele Lavia, Lindsey Kemp, Glauco Mauri, Mario Monicelli, Giuseppe Patroni Griffi, Michele Placido, Lamberto Puggelli, Massimo Ranieri, Luca Ronconi, Peter Stein.

Renzo also combines his job in the world of performance, i.e. backstage, preparing duels, with actually participating personally in various roles as actor dueller, such as in the film L'innocente by Luchino Visconti and in Il deserto dei Tartari by Valerio Zurlini, or in the television show Siete Tutti Invitati, Citofanare Calone, Rai Uno, where he carried out a live duel with Massimo Ranieri, just to give a few examples.

Since 2003 he has been a teacher of screen performances at the National School of Cinema of the Cinematography Experimental Centre in Rome, the most prestigious national institute in the world of teaching of cinema professions, from which the most important Italian cinematographers have graduated.
