Marina Bianchi 
 

Born in Milan, she graduated in 1980 in “Direction” at Scuola d’Arte Drammatica “Paolo Grassi” in Milan.She followed musical education (piano).
She started in the ‘70’s as director and actrice in drama off-theatre in Milan and Rome with particolar attention to the female approach.
From 1980 to 1992 she worked as Assistant  Director at  Teatro alla Scala of Milan, where she still keeps a collaboration.
She also worked as Assistant Director for various Opera Houses in Italy (Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; Teatro di San Carlo, Naples; Teatro dell'Opera, Rome; Teatro La Fenice, Venice; Ravenna Festival, Arena di Verona, Teatro Filarmonico) and abroad (Bolschoj, Moscow; Opera Bastille, Paris; Opera du Nord, Lille; NHK and Bunka Kaikan, Tokyo; Osaka Opera House; La Maestranza, Seville; Opernhaus, Zurich; Grand Theatre de Gèneve, Abao, Bilbao; Washington D.C., Lincoln Center; La Coruna Festival Mozart; San Petersburg, Mikhailovsky Teatr; Teatro Real, Madrid; Liceu, Barcelona).
She collaborated with many world wide renomated Directors, reviving some of their original productions: Giorgio Strehler (Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Falstaff, Lohengrin, Così fan tutte), William Friedkin (Vec Makropoulos), Roberto De Simone (Il Signor Bruschino, Lo frate 'nammurato, Falstaff, Eleonora), Andrej Konchalowsky, Jean-Pierre Ponnelle, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Graham Vick (Lucia di Lammermoor, Manon Lescaut), Luca Ronconi (Les Troyens, Fetonte, Ernani), Jerome Savary, Gilbert Deflò (Rigoletto), Giancarlo Cobelli, Franco Zeffirelli (La bohème, Otello, Turandot), Robert Wilson (Salomé, Doktor Faustus);  with Liliana Cavani (Orfeo ed Euridice, La traviata, Jenufa, La vestale, La cena delle beffe, Cavalleria rusticana, Manon Lescaut, Pagliacci, Un ballo in maschera, Werther, Alceste),  Eimuntas Nekrosius (Macbeth, Boris Godunov, La leggenda della città invisibile di Kitesh e la vergine Fevronia), and Ferzan Ozpetek (Aida, La traviata) she collaborated at there first appearance in the opera world.
 Among her several directions: Turandot by G. Puccini which opened the New Theatre of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in December 2012;  Le nozze di Figaro by W. A. Mozart in June 2012 and Carmen by G. Bizet at Teatro Lirico di Cagliari in December 2011;  L’elisir d’amore  by G. Donizetti at Teatro Regio di Torino in May 2010  and July 2009 at Castello di Racconigi; Rigoletto by G.Verdi for Teatro Petruzzelli, Bari, in July 2001; in January 2000 she opened the season of Teatro  San Carlo di Napoli with  La bohème by G. Puccini, in a multimedia staging production. In 1996 she performed the italian premiere of Das Berliner Requiem by K. Weill for Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; in 1997, together with Cavalleria rusticana by P. Mascagni, she staged for Teatro La Gran Guardia di Livorno a seldom performed version of  Blue Monday by G. Gershwin.
Her vision of a modern staging utilizing different elements (video, projections, sound effects) began in Busseto, Villa Pallavicino with La traviata by G. Verdi in 1999.
For the contemporary musical theatre she took care of the stage movements  for the world premiere of Prometeo  by L. Nono (Biennale di Venezia and Teatro alla Scala – Ansaldo, season 1984/1985) and collaborated to the production of the italian cicle of  Licht  by  K. Stockhausen performed at  Teatro alla Scala (Donnerstag, 1981 – Montag, 1982 – Samstag, 1984).
Special attention she gave to music theatre for young people and children  conceiving and directing Le stanze di Wolfgang Amadè, original opera-play about the childhood of Mozart; Brundibar by H. Krasa;  Let’s make an operaThe little sweep by B. Britten; Pierino e il lupo by S. Prokof’ev;  Histoire du Soldat by I. Stravinskij. For the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, she has been staging since 2007 an opera-play in Florence for Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with  M.° Yehezkel Yerushalmi, first violin of the orchestra.
She is also active  in Master Classes of “arte scenica” and she is responsible for training course for directors and opera singers.
In 2002 she promoted a High Professional Course in Stage Direction for theatre, opera, and television supported by different partners, Accademia delTeatro alla Scala, Piccolo Teatro di Milano-Teatro d’Europa, Scuola d’Arte Drammatica Paolo Grassi.
