Alain Lombard 

Orchestra Conductor

Alain Lombard studied at the Conservatory of Paris and made his debut at the Opera House in Lyon in 1962. He worked as an assistant to Bernstein and Karajan, and in 1967 he was nominated Musical Director of the Miami Orchestra and immediately afterwards he was made permanent Director of the Metropolitan Orchestra in New York. In the United States he has conducted the most important Orchestras (the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philadelphia, the Chicago and the Boston Orchestras) and in Europe he has led, among others, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre de Paris.

From 1972 to 1983 he was musical Director of the Strasburg Philharmonic Orchestra and from 1974 to 1980 he was Artistic Director of the Rhine Opera with which he recorded numerous albums.

Mr. Lombard was musical Director of the Paris Opera from 1981 to 1983, and in 1988 he secured the position of Artistic Director of the Bordeaux Orchestra and Festival, a position he held until 1995.

At present Alain Lombard conducts the most important European, American and Japanese Symphonic Orchestras, and since 1999 he has been Orchestra Director for the Italian-Swiss Philharmonic Orchestra.
