Lü Jia is a highly respected conductor with great international recognition. Born in a musical family in Shanghai, Lü Jia began studying music from his parents at a very young age. He later studied conducting at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and under the instruction of renowned conductor Ms. Zheng Xiaoying.
At the age of 24, Lü was awarded the First Prize in the Antonio Pedeotti International Conducting Competition in Trento, Italy, and launched his career as a conductor.
From the age of 26, Lü, was being the Music Director of the grand opera theaters and orchestras in Europe including Teatro Comunale Giusseppe Verdi di Trieste, Dortmund Statz Operl'orchestra di Toscana, L'orchestra International d'Italia, Orchestra di Roma, Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra and Arena di Verona, the world’s well – known opera theater.
Lü also was the first Asian conductor to serve as director of a nationally-recognized opera company in Italy, the first Chinese conductor ever to lead the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the first Chinese conductor to record the complete orchestral works of German composer Felix Mendelssohn and also the first only one conductor in the world recorded the whole orchestral works of Swedish nationally-treasure composer Ingva Lidholm. In 2007, the La Gazza Ladra conducted by Lü Jia was named Best Opera of the Year in the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro in Italy.
In recognition of Lü Jia’s prominent contribution to music culture, he was awarded the President’s Cup by the President of the Italian Public, Giorgio Napolitano. In 2012, the world-class Domingo International Vocal Competition invited Lü Jia to serve as Judge, making him the first-ever Chinese judge at the Competition.
For years, Lü commanded performance at the first class opera theater and symphony in Europe, Americas, Asia, and has conducted 2,000 concerts and operas, recorded 10 discs. Mr. Lü Jia is a highly respected and influential figure on the orchestral stage of the world.
At present, Mr. Lü is the Chief Conductor of the orchestra of the China National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), as well as the Music Director and Principal Conductor of Macao Orchestra. Recently, Lü directed and conducted at such significant operas as Turandot, La Bohem, Elisir d'Amore, Rigoletto, Tosca, Der fliegened Hollander, Un Ballo in Maschera, Lohengrin, Otello, La Nozze di Figaro. These operas were being achieved remarkable success in the performance. New opera productions in the future include Il Trovatore, Cavalleria Rusticana, etc.
In the coming few years, Lü will also be invited to be the conductor at the Italian La Scala, the Genova Opera House, Rossini Opera Festival, the British Philharmonic, Konzerthausorchester Berlin as well as at various Orchestras in Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, etc.
