Violinist

Born in 1965, Massimo Quarta began his musical studies at the age of nine and graduated Summa Cum Laude and with an Honourable Mention from the "St.Cecilia" Conservatory in Rome as a student of Beatrice Antonioni. He subsequently studied with Salvatore Accardo, Pavel Vernikov, Ruggiero Ricci and Abram Stern.

Winner of the most important Italian violin competitions ("Città di Vittorio Veneto 1986 - Concorso "Opera Prima Philips" 1989), in 1991 he won the first prize in the prestigious "Nicoló Paganini International Violin Competition" in Genoa (Italy).

As a result of the extraordinary success achieved from this prize, he started an international career which has taken him to be invited to major concert societies, playing in Paris (Salle Pleyel, Théâtre du Châtelet), Munich (Philharmonie im Gasteig), Berlin (Philharmonie), Frankfurt(Alte Oper), Dusseldorf (Tonhalle), Tokyo (Metropolitan Art Space, Bunka Kaikan), Warsaw (Warsaw Philharmonic), Moscow (Great Hall of the Conservatory), Milan (Teatro alla Scala,Societá del Quartetto, Serate Musicali), Rome (Accademia di Santa Cecilia, RAI, Teatro dell'Opera), Florence (Amici della Musica), Turin (Unione Musicale), Naples (Teatro San Carlo), Bologna (Teatro Comunale), Cannes (Midem), Zagreb (Lisinski Hall).

Firmly established in a short time as one of the most brilliant violinists of his generation, he also performed with the Radio Sinfonie Orchester Frankfurt, the Orchestra Sinfonica dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Real Orchestra Sinfonica de Sevilla,the Budapest Symphony Orchestra,playing with conductors like Miun Wun Chung, Daniele Gatti, Daniel Harding, Daniel Oren, Isaac Karabtchevsky, Christian Thielemann.
Guest of renowned festivals such as Stresa, Sarasota, Kuhmo, Spoleto, Berliner Festwochen, Bratislava, Kfar-Blum (Israel), Bodensee, Ravenna, Lyon, Naples, Sapporo, Potsdam, alongside his solo career Quarta has an intense chamber music activity, playing with musicians like Salvatore Accardo, Bruno Giuranna, Rocco Filippini, Franco Petracchi, Natalia Gutman, Joseph Silverstein, François Joël Thiollier, Patrick Gallois, Alfons Kontarsky, Karine Georgian, Robert Cohen.

In 1992 he has been awarded of the International Prize "Foyer Des Artistes" and in January 1995 of the "Gino Tani International Prize for Arts and Spectacles".

He is Professor at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana (Musikhochschule) in Lugano.

Massimo Quarta recorded for Philips and has appeared several times on television.

He has recorded for Dynamic a CD with music by N. Paganini, the "Four Seasons" by A. Vivaldi with the Moskow Chamber Orchestra for Delos has just concluded the recording of the 6 Niccolò Paganini Violin Concertos with the "Cannone"Guarneri del Gesú violin owned by the great Genovese virtuoso.

He plays the "Marechal Bertier-ex von Vecsey" Antonio Stradivari from 1716.
