Paolo Restani 


Paolo Restani studied piano with Vincenzo Vitale, Gerhard Oppitz and Peter Lang, and composition with Bruno Bettinelli. Besides being a regular guest-player at the main international concert-institutions, he currently participates in the more important European festivals.

Among his performances in solo-recitals and concertos with orchestra during the recent concert-seasons, the following institutions are to be pointed out: the Grosser Musikvereinssaal in Vienna, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, the Scala Theatre in Milan, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome where in 1984 he made his debut at the age of sixteen, London, Brussels, Frankfurt, the Reingoldhalle in Mainz for the Meister-Konzert series, Innsbruck, Santiago in Chile, La Fenice in Venice, San Carlo in Naples, the Regio Theatre in Turin, Verdi in Trieste, the Comunale Theatre in Bologna, Genoa Carlo Felice, Asturias Festival, Oviedo Piano Festival, Ljubljana Festival, International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo (in 1997 and in 1998 to commemorate the third anniversary of the death of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli), Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Settembre Musica in Turin, Ravenna Festival on invitation by Riccardo Muti, Panatenee Pompeiane and Romaeuropa Festival.

He has been solo-pianist with orchestras like Australian Chamber Orchestra, Muenchner Symphoniker, Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, New Austrian Philharmonic, Sinfonica Nacional de Chile, Slovenian RTV, Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, and has played under the direction of Gerd Albrecht, Yoel Levi, John Nelson, Gustav Kuhn, Claus Peter Flor, Gunter Neuhold, Piero Bellugi, Roberto Abbado and Donato Renzetti and many more.

His wide Repertoire ranges from Bach to Messiaen with a preference to great works of the Romantic period. He is an eclectic and versatile musician, is involved in various forms of art expressions and has had significant roles in important theatrical productions (drama, opera and dance). He has also been invited to perform by artists such as Sylvie Guillelme, Laurent Hilaire, Carla Fracci, Enrico Maria Salerno, Monica Bacelli, and Michael Nyman with whom he realized the first execution in Italy of The Piano Concerto for piano and orchestra from the musical accompaniment of the Oscar Award winning film The Piano directed by Jane Champion.

He is, in addition, engaged in cultural consultation and teaching activities where he holds courses and masterclasses.
His next engagements include a participation in the Sophia Festival, a performance at Philharmonie in Berlin and also tours in North and South America, Japan, France and Russia.
