María José Siri was born in Uruguay.
In the beginning of her career she sang at Teatro Avenida, Teatro Astral and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, where she did the roles of Violetta/La Traviata, Micaela/Carmen, Donna Anna/Don Giovanni, Mimi/La Bohème, Gilda/Rigoletto and Elisetta/Il Matrimonio Segreto.
In the last years she has grown into a highly requested international artist.
Future engagements in 2013 and 2014 include Andrea Chenier at Teatro Regio di Torino (next to Marcelo Alvarez), Tosca at Wiener Staatsoper, Staatsoper unter den Linden Berlin and in Stuttgart, Suor Angelica/Il Trittico at Copenhagen Royal Opera, Tatyana/Eugen Onegin, Amelia/Simon Boccanegra, Leonora/Forza del Destino at Teatro Regio di Torino (w. Noseda), Andrea Chenier at Swedish Royal Opera in Stocholm (next to José Cura’ s Chenier), Madama Butterfly at Outdoor Festival Opera Hedeland, Aida at Arena di Verona (in the Verdi Year 2013), Desdemona/Otello in Santiago (with Antonenko), Nedda/Pagliacci with Marcelo Alvarez and Leo Nucci in Montecarlo.
She will also sing a Verdi Concert in Summer of 2013 at Arena di Verona and partecipate in La Scala’ s Tour with G. Dudamel to Japan in September 2013 singing the Soprano leadrole in the Verdi Gala Concerts.
In 2012 she performed Tosca at Teatro Regio di Torino with Noseda, Tatyana/Eugen Onegin at Staatsoper unter den Linden Berlin, Mimì/La Bohème at Liceu de Barcelona and at San Carlo di Napoli, Maddalena/Andrea Chenier at Bregenzer Festspiele, Leonora/Forza del Destino in Cologne, Madame Butterfly at Staatsoper unter den Linden Berlin and Leonora/Il Trovatore in Bologna.
In 2011 she sang Lucrezia/I Due Foscari in Trieste, Aida in Hamburg, Aida in Florence with Zubin Mehta, Mimì/La Bohème (w. Conlon, Zeffirelli) in Rome, Nedda/I Pagliacci in Montevideo, Tosca in Savonlinna and Palermo, Leonora/Il Trovatore in Palermo and at Teatro La Fenice di Venezia.
Siri’s many engagements continued in 2010 where she performed Rachel/La Juive at Mikhailovsky St. Petersburg Next to Neil Shicoff, opened Mozart Festival of Coruna with Verdi’s Requiem, which she also sang in Santiago de Compostela. Moreover the soprano did Aida at Bregenzer Festspiele (with Rizzi and Vick) and in Stuttgart, Tosca at Carlo Felice di Genova, Rachel/La Juive again in St. Petersburg and recitals.
In the 2009 season Siri made a very successful debut at La Scala di Milano singing Lucrezia in Verdi's I Due Foscari, and the title role in Aida with Daniel Barenboim conducting. She also sang Nedda/I Pagliacci at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Aida on tour with La Scala and Barenboim in Tel Aviv and Tokyo, Sifare/Mitridate Re di Ponto at Mozart Festival of La Coruña with stage director Graham Vick, Aida at Soyrèes Lirique Festival in Sanxay and in Stuttgart where she also did Il Trovatore.
2008 started with a great concert in the Köln Operhaus again with WDR orchestra. She sang Leonora/Il Trovatore at Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova. In June she debuted as Mimì/La Bohème at Semper Oper of Dresden, and in Verdi's Requiem with the Berliner Philharmonic in Berlin. In the Fall she sang La Traviata at the Sankt Margarethen Festival, Austria. She also made her debut as Aida at StaatsOper Stuttgart. In December she continued with Aida in Franco Zeffirelli’s production at Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Italy.
In 2007 she sang Violetta/La Traviata and Verdi’s Requiem at Teatro Colon with great success. She returned to the Teatro Argentino and Solisas Micaela/Carmen, debuted at the prestigious Rheingau Festival in Wiesbaden, Germany with WDR Köln Orchestra. She made her Italian debut with Le Ville of Puccini as Anna in Mantova, Novara and Rovigo.
