
The Chilean tenor Giancarlo Monsalve has studied in Italy with Mirella Freni, and with Montserrat Caballé in Spain. He made his international debut as Rodolfo in
La Bohème by Puccini at the Luglio Musicale Trapanese and, playing the same role, at the Opernhaus in Zurich and at the Opera in Leipzig.
He has been Pinkerton in
Madame Butterfly at the Staatsoper in Hannover, and Cavaradossi in
Tosca, at the Opéra in Angers Nantes; Rodolfo in
Luisa Miller by Verdi at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, on a Claus Guth production,
Don Carlo at the Opera of Koln, under the guidance of Oleg Caetani, and Cavaradossi again in
Tosca in Saint Petersburg.
Among the characters he has performed, it is important to mention Turiddu in
Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni, the role of which he has played in Yverdon-Les-Bains and at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, and Don José in
Carmen by Bizet, played both in Lübeck and in Palma de Mallorca.
