Born in Tambov (Russia), he obtained his degree from the Conservatoire Tchaikovsky in Moscow and in 1993 he made his opera debut in Nabucco at the Bregenz Festival.
Since 1997 he is a company member of the Karlsruhe Staatstheater, where in 2006 he has been nominated “Kammersänger”.
In 2004, his extraordinary vocal and acting abilities let him the title of “Singer of the Year”, assigned by the magazine “Opernwelt” for his outstanding performance of Boito’s Mefistofele.
In 2009 he made his debut as Filippo II in Don Carlo at Karlsruhe Staattheater and he has been highly acclaimed in Eugene Onegin and Don Giovanni in Stuttgart, in Rigoletto in Florence, in Mozart e Salieri (Rimsky-Korsakov) and Mefistofele in Montpellier. At the same time he made another important debut as Zaccaria in Nabucco, in Venice.
In 2011 he performed Les Troyens in Karlsruhe, as Fiesco in Simon Boccanegra in Buenos Aires, and as Zaccaria in Nabucco at the Vienna Staatsoper. In the first part of 2012 he took part in Anna Bolena, in Florence, and Rigoletto in Las Palmas.
In Summer 2012 he interpreted Il Re in Aida at the Arena di Verona and afterwards he performed Timur in Turandot, in Florence. In April 2013, he has been Gremin in Eugene Onegin at the Vienna Staatsoper, and Zaccaria in Tokyo.
After Nabucco and Rigoletto at the Arena, he will take part in La Vestale at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. In 2014 he will be in Strasbourg to interpret Sparafucile, in Sydney for the production of Eugene Onegin and in Marseille as Alvise in La Gioconda.
