Marco Vratogna

Born in La Spezia, Marco Vratogna began his musical studies at the Puccini Conservatory.
Renowned around the world for his distinctive voice of staggering range, timbre and amplitude, Marco Vratogna made his operatic debut in December 2000, in the role of Stankar in Stiffelio by Verdi at Teatro Verdi in Trieste. From then on, the Italian baritone enjoyed success on the world’s greatest stages. He performed as Paolo Albiani in Simon Boccanegra at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore at Teatro de la Maestranza in Sevilla, Germont in La Traviata at Teatro Verdi in Salerno. Prestigious was his debut in the title role of Macbeth under the baton of Massimo de Bernart at Teatro Comunale in Modena where he subsequently returned for a recital and a concert celebrating the 40 years of Luciano Pavarotti’s career (with Leone Magiera).

Recent seasons saw him at the Opera Company of Philadelphia in Carmen, at Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna and at the Oper Frankfurt in Nabucco, at Teatro Comunale in Florence with Claudio Abbado and at Teatro Regio di Torino (Graham Vick, stage director) in Simon Boccanegra (Paolo Albiani), at Teatro Municipale Verdi in Salerno in Il Trovatore (Luna), I Pagliacci (Tonio) and Cavalleria rusticana (Alfio), again as Luna in Il Trovatore at the Staatstheater Stuttgart, at Oper Frankfurt as Tonio in I Pagliacci. Marco Vratogna also enjoys a successful collaboration with Teatro Verdi in Trieste, where he sang in Simon Boccanegra and Il Trovatore.

Marco Vratogna sang in various European theatres: Il Trovatore (Conte di Luna) in Stuttgart, I Masnadieri (Francesco) at La Monnaie in Bruxelles, Nabucco at Teatro Felice in Genoa and Tosca at Berlin Staatsoper and at Oper Frankfurt; a new production of Otello at the Stuttgart Staatstheater, Nabucco at Caracalla, Tosca in Berlin and Frankfurt, L’amore dei tre Re in Turin, Simon Boccanegra in Cagliari, Un Ballo in Maschera and Macbeth at Oper Frankfurt, Otello at the Classic Openair of Solothurn, a new production of Madama Butterfly in Stuttgart, a new production of Simon Boccanegra in Amsterdam. He sang Un Ballo in Maschera at Carlo Felice in Genoa and obtained a great success singing Luisa Miller in Leipzig, Andrea Chenier in Berlin as well as Otello at Teatro Regio of Parma. 


He also sang Otello and Tosca in Hamburg and made his debut at Arena di Verona with Nabucco and Aida, Otello at Teatro Regio in Parma, Edgar in Turin. He made his debut at Covent Garden and Teatro Real in Madrid with Un Ballo in Maschera, and at Liceu in Barcelona with Simon Boccanegra.


He obtained a great success with his Opera Stockolm’s debut in a new production of Macbeth, singing a new production of Aida at the Staatsoper in Munich conducted by Daniele Gatti and with Otello at Semperoper in Dresden. He sang Otello in San Francisco under the baton of Nicola Luisotti and Andrea Chenier at Teatro Real in Madrid. Last season saw his return at Covent Garden in London with Aida conducted by Nicola Luisotti, and in Bologna with Edgar.


Recently he obtained a big success singing Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci in Hamburg, Tosca at Puccini Festival in Torre del lago and Aida in San Francisco and Valencia.
He also sang La Fanciulla del West in Chicago, Tosca in Dresden and at La Scala with great reviews from public and critics, Attila at La Scala, Nabucco at Arena di Verona, Un Ballo in maschera in Dresden, Attila in Seattle.


Most recently: Tosca in Wien, Valencia, La Scala, Bari, Berlin and Zurich, Rigoletto title role in San Francisco conducted by Nicola Luisotti, Macbeth in Verona, Rigoletto in Limoges, again Tosca in Berlin and in Hamburg, Otello at Metropolitan in NY and at Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv.

Future plans include: Andrea Chénier at Wiener Staatsoper, Rigoletto in Tokyo and Seattle, Edgar and La Fanciulla del West in Frankfurt, Otello in Barcelona and Sidney, Aida and Nabucco at Arena di Verona.
