Duccio Dal Monte 
Duccio Dal Monte was born in Florence and studied singing privately with Leonard Wolowsky and Rolando Panerai. He began as a soloist in the oratorios and masses of Bach, Mozart, Handel and Haydn. He made his debut in opera in 1991, in Mozart’s Don Giovanni in Florence. There followed appearances in various Italian cities in a number of operas.

These included: Scarlatti’s Gli Equivoci nel sembiante, Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem serail, Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and Britten’s The Little sweep. Others were: Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, Rigoletto and, at the Torre del Lago Festival, La Bohème. Subsequently, he tackled works like La Forza del destino, Lucia di Lammermoor, Norma, Il Trovatore and Luisa Miller at different opera houses both in Italy and abroad. He was soloist at the 60th Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Mendelssohn’s Heimkehr aus der fremde [“Son and Stranger”] and appeared at the San Gimignano Festival in Gianni Schicchi and Cilea’s opera Gloria. He sang in Verdi’s Requiem in Freiburg, Frankfurt, Riga and Budapest, in Carmen at Salzburg and in Mefistofele in Mulhouse and in Debrecen . There were also appearances in Donizetti’s Caterina Cornaro in Vienna, in Don Carlos in Gera and in Fidelio in Klagenfurt. In 1998, he sang in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda in Munich. From 1994, under the guidance of German teachers, he increased the repertoire with operas by Wagner and Strauss. He made his first appearance in Vienna in Die Zauberflöte, after which, he was a soloist in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia and in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, both in Florence. In 2000, he performed Hagen in Wagner’s Götterdämmerung and Wotan in Wagner’s Die Walküre. He was also Hagen at the Staatsoper in Berlin, then Filippo II in Don Carlo and Fafner in Das Rheingold in Catania. In a production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle in Japan, he sang all four of the principal bass roles. There followed appearances in Strauss’s Salome at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, as Rocco in Beethoven’s Fidelio at the Ludwigsburg Festival, in Don Carlo in Stuttgart and in Don Giovanni at the Staatsoper in Berlin. In addition, he sang in Die Zauberflöte, in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in Nice and in Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Eri Festival (this was repeated until this year). There followed appearances in Parsifal and in Tristan und Isolde, in the productions of 2005 and 2006. He also worked with Geneva’s opera house in two operas: W. Braunfels’s Die Vögel and Parsifal. His most important engagements recently were in Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen at Adelaide’s opera house in Australia and in Fidelio, Aida and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, in the cities of Madrid, Geneva, Barcelone and Innsbruck. He was also Procida in I Vespri siciliani at the Colón Opera House in Buenos Aires and Sparafucile in Rigoletto at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste. In January 2007, he took the parts of Lindorf, Coppélius, Miracle and Dapertutto in Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv.

In the summer of 2007 at the Arena, he will perform the role of the King in Aida.
