Born in Seoul (South Korea) in 1972, Hong Sung-Hoon (Francesco Hong) has studied at the University Kyung-Hee in Seoul; on 2002 moved to Italy to increase his knowledge about technique and the italian operatic repertoire. He is currently studying with Paolo Barbacini.
He won the 55th Competition “Viotti” in Vercelli, which gave him the chance to make his debut at Teatro Regio in Parma in the role of Duca in Rigoletto
. Since then Francesco Hong has made a brilliant career in many prestigeous venues like the Teatro Comunale in Bologna for Il Trovatore
(Manrico); conducted by Daniel Oren at Teatro Verdi of Trieste, in Tel Aviv with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra and in Bari, for the Petruzzelli, in Rigoletto
, Verdi Requiem
. He debuted also at Konzerthaus in Wien for Wally
by Catalani, at Carlo Felice of Genua for the First Symphony
by Skrjabin e in Palermo for Turandot
After a personal huge success in the performances of Trovatore
for the Circuito Lirico Lombardo, he has participated to Rigoletto
with Renato Bruson in Trieste (Teatro Verdi), again with Daniel Oren in Pordenone, Udine e Gorizia.
In January 2007 he debuted with Tosca
at Frankfurt Opera and he returned at the same opera house for Don Carlo
(June 2008). A requested tenor in the most important international venues, Francesco Hong has recently performed with great success the role of Alvaro (La Forza del Destino
) at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genua with Daniel Oren following by the debut at Teatro Real de Madrid as Manrico (Il Trovatore
), several galà in Germany (including Alte Oper in Frankfurt and Wiesbaden), Turandot
(Calaf) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, La Forza del Destino
for the debut at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with Zubin Mehta, and Norma
at Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Rigoletto
in Piacenza and in Modena (alongside with Leo Nucci), Il Trovatore
at Teatro Bellini in Catania, as well as Un Ballo in Maschera
again at Teatro Real de Madrid.
Recently he has performed Calaf in Torre del Lago (for the opening of the new theatre), Rovigo, Bolzano and in Valencia, under Lorin Maazel. He will continue Turandot
in Livorno, Savonlinna Festival (Finland) and Torre del Lago, Norma
in Bilbao for the opening of the season 2009/10 and he will made his debut at Staatsoper Wien in 2009 with La Forza del Destino
. In 2010 he will go back to Madrid for Andrea Chenier
On January 2009 he made a huge success debuting at Teatro alla Scala of Milan as Don Carlo under the baton of Daniele Gatti; on February 2009 he made his debut in Usa as Calaf in the Philadelphia's Turandot
, conducted by Maurizio Barbacini with Francesca Patanè in the title-role.
