Ainhoa Arteta
Ainhoa Arteta was born in Tolosa and, in 1993, won the “Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions” competition of New York and the international “Voix d’Opera Plácido Domingo” competition of Paris. She made her debut at Palm Beach in 1990 and, from that point in time, her career has developed at an international level: she has sung in La Traviata, Un Ballo in maschera, Turandot and Rigoletto, moving from Graz to New York and from Madrid to San Sebastian.

This has been further underlined by her concert with Michael Tilson Thomas and the New World Symphony Orchestra and also her first appearance at New York’s Carnegie Hall. The latter was with Dolora Zajick and Placido Domingo with whom she now regularly collaborates, holding concerts in Spain, the United States, Brazil, France, Turkey, England, Germany, Austria and Lebanon. In the years 1993 – 1994, her major performances were Violetta in La Traviata, Leila in Les Pêcheurs de perles (“The Pearl Fishers”), Gilda in Rigoletto, Mimì in La Bohème and Marguerite in Faust. In Bonn, she first appeared in La Rondine (“The Swallow”) as Magda, in Naples and Amsterdam in the role of Mimì and in Detroit as Violetta. She opened the season at the Washington Opera and at Hamburg, returned to the New York Metropolitan Opera House in the part of Olga (Fedora) and Violetta, then made her first appearance at Washington in La Traviata and at Bordeaux in Les Pêcheurs de perles. In 1999, she first appeared in London at a concert with Placido Domingo, organised by the Royal Opera Covent Garden. More recently, she has sung in Mozart’s Così fan tutte as Fiordiligi, staged at the New York Metropolitan; Poulenc’s Les Mamelles de Tirésias, conducted by James Levine (again, at the Metropolitan); Roméo et Juliette at Malaga; and at a Mozart concert at Valencia’s Pallazzo della Musica. She has also taken part in festivals at Santander and Baalbeck (Lebanon) – the last, together with Placido Domingo.

In the summer of 2007 at the Arena, she will perform Musetta in La Bohème.
