Carlo Colombara, born in Bologna, gained the Gold Medal as the best Italian singer at the “Viotti” Competition in Vercelli in 1987 and won the “Concorso As. Li. Co.” the following year in Milan.

Thus began a brilliant international career that has since taken him to some of the most prestigious opera houses in the world: the Vienna State Opera; the New York Metropolitan; Moscow’s Bolshoi; the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires; the Bastille, Paris; London’s Covent Garden and La Scala, Milan. The most-important roles that he has performed include: Don Carlo at Zurich and Bologna; Semiramide, at La Fenice, Venice; Simon Boccanegra at Paris, Zurich and Munich; Ernani at Madrid, Zurich and Vienna; Attila at Macerato, Vienna and Genoa; Norma at Chicago; Faust at Genoa and Turin; and I Vespri sicilani, Nabucco and Macbeth at La Scala, Milan. In 1997, he performed the role of Timur in a spectacular production of Turandot in the Forbidden City at Beijing, under the conductorship of Zubin Mehta. Among the many recognitions of his outstanding talent, we record the “Lauri Volpi” Prize, the “Ettore Bastianini” Prize and the “Matassa d’Oro”.

Colombara debuted at the Arena di Verona in 1992 with La Bohème. He also performed starring roles in Norma, Turandot, Aida, Macbeth and La Gioconda. In 2013 he will be Zaccaria, in Nabucco: considered one of the best interpreters of the role, he participaded in more than 25 productions of Verdi’s opera, imposing his deep voice that fits perfectly to the character of the high priest. He was Zaccaria in the Arena in 1994, 1996 and 2007.
