After having studied at the North-western University of Chicago, in a very short time Brenda Roberts was recruited by the Staatstheater in Saarbrücken, then by the Opernhaus in Frankfurt and finally by the Hamburger Staatsoper.
At the beginning of the 1980s Brenda Roberts began her independent career as an opera singer participating in the performances of Lohengrin at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan in the role of Ortrud, at the Teatro Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in the role of Venus (Tannhäuser
), at the Teatro Metropolitan in New York as Färberin (Barak, the dyer's wife) in Frau ohne Schatten
, in Chicago as Elektra
, at the Festival of Bayreuth as Siegfried-Brünnhilde (Götterdämmerung), and at the Opera House in Paris once again in the role of Ortrud.
In October 1991 she made her debut at the Münchner Staatsoper as Elektra
, a role which she also interpreted at Mannheim and Augsburg, and then once again at the Semper-Oper in Dresden, Linz, Kiel, Bremen and at the Staatstheater in Stuttgart in the production with the famous stage design by Harry-Kupfer in 1991. In the seasons between 1994 and 1998, she participated as a guest protagonist in the role of Turandot
in extra performances in Saarbrücken and in Istanbul, as Salome
in Prague, Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos
) in Bielefeld, Färberin (Frau ohne Schatten
) in Bonn, Tosca
in Kassel, Venus (Tannhäuser
) in Cologne and Senta (Der Fliegende Holländer
) in Stuttgart.
In 1999 she carried out the complete recording on CD of the opera Das Sternengebot
by Siegfried Wagner (roles: Julia and Hiltrud). In 2000 she was a guest at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, where she performed in Erwartung
, the monodrama in one act by Arnold Schönberg. Over the last two years she has participated in various concerts in Boston, among which the world première of the Divine Lithurgy by Rouben Gregorian, and at the performances of Lohengrin
at the Opernhaus in Bonn in the role of Ortrud.
During her career Brenda Roberts has sung with famous orchestra conductors for example Erich Leinsdorf, Claudio Abbado, Horst Stein, Berislav Klobucar, Marek Janowski, Garcia Navarro, Dennis Russell Davies and Friedemann Layer.
