
Francesco Piccoli made his debut in
Rita by Donizetti in 1986 at the Teatro Sociale in Rovigo. In 1987 he completed his studies in the Conservatorio Dall'Abaco in Verona under the guidance of Rina Malatrasi and he performed in
Gianni Schicchi by Puccini in Pisa in the role of Rinuccio.
In 1989, in Naples, he interpreted Paolino in
Matrimonio segreto by Cimarosa. The following year he made his debut in the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona in
Otello by Verdi in the role of Cassio, in Venice in
Così fan tutte by Mozart in the role of Ferrando, at the Festival Rossini in Pesaro in
La Scala di seta in the role of Dorvil, in Treviso in
Falstaff in the role of Fenton and at the Scala in Milan in
Idomeneo by Mozart in the role of Arbace.
In 1991 he sang in
Le nozze di Figaro in London, Paris and Frankfurt, in
Don Giovanni in Piacenza, in
Sangue viennese by Johann Strauss in Trieste and in
La Traviata in Savona. In 1992 he performed in
Fra' Diavolo by Auber at the Teatro alla Scala, in
Quatro rusteghi by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari in Geneva, in
Cantata per Pio IX and in
Cantate per i Borboni by Rossini, at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro respectively (in both cases the operas were directed by Maestro Chailly).
The following year he participated in the
Incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, in
Flauto magico by Mozart in Trieste and in
Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti in Turin. Also in 1993 he made his debut in the Arena di Verona in
I Pagliacci by Leoncavallo and in Pesaro in
Maometto II by Rossini.
Between 1994 and 1995 he appeared on the stage in the Teatro San Carlo in Naples in
L'Occasione fa il ladro by Rossini and in
Il Mondo della luna by Haydn, then at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna in
I Lombardi alla prima crociata, in Trieste and in Cologne in
La Traviata, in Pesaro in
L'Inganno felice by Rossini, in Palermo in
Cincillà di Lombardo, in Macerata and in Ascoli in
Il barbiere di Siviglia, in Cagliari in
Petite messe solennelle, in Parma in
Falstaff, in Glyndebourne in
La Bohème and in Verona in
La Fida ninfa (at the Teatro Filarmonico) and in
I Pagliacci (at the Arena di Verona).
The tenor returned to the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona in 1996 to sing in
Pipistrello by Johann Strauss. He also sang in Turin in
Madama Butterfly, in Geneva in
I Pagliacci and in Bologna in
Otello.
