Born in Genoa, he studied at Niccolò Paganini Conservatoire of his home town. In 1984 he debuted with the role of Gabriele Adorno in SIMON BOCCANEGRA in Genoa.
In 1993 he debuted at the Metropolitan of New York in IL TROVATORE. In the same Opera House, he sang AIDA, CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA, DON CARLO, SIMON BOCCANEGRA, FEDORA, TOSCA, MADAMA BUTTERFLY. In 1995 he made his debut at Teatro Alla Scala in Milan, performing the role of Faust in Boito’s MEFISTOFELE under M. Riccardo Muti’s baton, at Opéra de Paris in 1996 in MANON LESCAUT, at San Francisco Opera in AIDA and IL TROVATORE; in 1998 he sang in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA at Wiener Staatsoper, where he later returned to perform in TURANDOT, TOSCA, CARMEN, ERNANI, DON CARLO, LA TRAVIATA, MEFISTOFELE and ANDREA CHENIER.
He collaborated with the most famous onductors, among whom James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Antonio Pappano, Myun-Whun Chung, Giuseppe Sinopoli and Daniele Gatti.
He sang in DON CARLO under the baton of M. Zubin Mehta at Munich Staatsoper and at Teatro Comunale di Firenze. He sang Tosca at Teatro Alla Scala in Milan and at the Royal Opera House of London, conducted by M. Lorin Maazel and by M. Antonio Pappano.
During the season 2009, he performed in the leading roles in TOSCA in Zurich, AIDA in Verona, TURANDOT in Barcelona, TOSCA in Vienna, ANDREA CHENIER in Madrid, LUISA MILLER in Zurich, LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST at Festival Pucciniano in Torre Del Lago and VESPRI SICILIANI in Parma. In april he debuted in the role of OTELLO in Liegè.
Among his future engagements: AIDA for the Arena di Verona Festival, LA FORZA DEL DESTINO in Wien, MEFISTOFOLE at Opéra de Montecarlo, IL TROVATORE in Mahon, CARMEN and TOSCA in Barcellona, POLIUTO and LA GIOCONDA in Marseille.
