Mario Malagnini 
TENOR 
Mario Malagnini was born in Salò on Lake Garda, and from an early age he studied music at the Brescia Conservatorio gaining a distinction and diploma in Trombone in 1980 and a diploma with top marks in Singing in 1984 from the Verdi Conservatorio where he studied under the guidance of Pier Miranda Ferraro.
In 1983 he won the 1st prize at the “Tito Gobbi” competition in Bassano del Grappa; in 1984, after his graduation, he received the 1st prize at the international competitions of  “Belvedere” (Vienna), “Caruso” (Milano) and “The Enna Competition”. Thanks to these competitions he met some great artists, with whom he refined his technique, such as Giuseppe di Stefano, Tito Gobbi, Franco Corelli, Carlo Bergonzi, Gianni Raimondi and Gian Giacomo Guelfi.
He made his debut in 1984 in Milan with“Il Corsaro” by Giuseppe Verdi. 
Mario Malagnini appeares on some of the world’s finest and most prestigious opera stages, including: La Scala (Milan), L’Arena di Verona, the Deutsche Oper (Berlin), Covent Garden (London), Staatsopera (Vienna), the Paris Opera Theatre, Madrid, Barcellona, Lisbon, Monaco, Monte-Carlo, Nice, Bolshoi (Moscow), Budapest, Copenhagen, Oslo, Helsinki, Tokyo, Seoul, Peking, Hong Kong, Bombay, New York, Los Angeles, Houston, San Francisco, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, and Santiago (Chile). In these performances he sang alongside with great artists such as Renata Scotto, Montserràt Caballè, Katia Ricciarelli, Shirley Verrett, Maria Chiara, Raina Kabaivanska, Eva Marton, Ghena Dimitrova, Mirella Freni, Fiorenza Cossotto, Grace Bumbry, Agnes Baltza, Teresa Berganza, Leo Nucci, Renato Bruson, Piero Cappuccilli, Gian Giacomo Guelfi, Aldo Protti, Giorgio Zancanaro, Sherrill Milnes, Nicolai Ghiaurov and Bonaldo Giaiotti. Equally, such a vast experience has led this notable Italian tenor to sing under the batons of Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Giuseppe Patané, Giuseppe Sinopoli and Placido Domingo, whom he did not only substitute in the singing role for a number of times, but he was chosen by Domingo himself for a production of Carmen in Los Angeles and in another production of Aida at the Terme di Carcalla, both under Domingo’s musical direction.
Mario Malagnini has over 40 roles in his repertoire, mostly Verdi and Puccini parts. The roles he has sung most frequently are; Don José in Carmen, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly and Radames in Aida. Recently he made his debut in the huge and demanding role of Otello in Lisabon and in Athens and also in several Italian cities. He has performed in La Scala in Milano in various productions as; Nabucco, Carmen, Adriana Lecouvreur, Fedora, Butterfly and in a Gala concert conducted by Riccardo Chailly.
Most recent engagements have been Radames in Aida at Teatro Greco in Taormina, Calaf in Turandot at the opening of The Royal Opera House of Muscat in Oman, in a new production by Franco Zeffirelli and under the baton of Placido Domingo, Don Carlos in 5 acts in Modena (also in DVD), Turandot in Genova (the DVD in three-dimensional is about to be released), Luisa Miller in Tel Aviv (under the baton of M° Daniel Oren), Carmen and Tosca in Trieste and Ballo in Maschera in Bergamo.
