Ambrogio Maestri is now seen by critics as one of the best baritones of his generation.
Its debut coincided with the most important music event of the "Verdi's Centennial" (2001), FALSTAFF, conducted by Riccardo Muti and directed by Giorgio Strehler at Teatro Alla Scala in Milan and the historic Teatro Verdi Busseto where He has performed in the presence of President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. This interpretation has earned him rave reviews by the Italian and international press and opened the doors of the largest Opera Houses in the world.

Since then his career is still growing. It was the interpreter of several Verdi operas, among which: RIGOLETTO at the Washington Opera, LA FORZA DEL DESTINO at Arena di Verona (Zenatello award) in the Japanese tour of Teatro Alla Scala conducted by Riccardo Muti, and Deutsche Oper Berlin, LA TRAVIATA at Teatro Alla Scala, directed by Liliana Cavani and at Teatro Verdi in Trieste, IL TROVATORE at Arena di Verona and the New National Theatre in Tokyo, UN BALLO IN MASCHERA at Teatro Alla Scala always under the direction of Muti, AIDA in Arena of Verona, directed by Franco Zeffirelli and conducted by Daniel Oren. In 2002, he sang Jago in OTELLO near Placido Domingo at Teatro Alla Scala and at Teatro La Fenice in Venice and then FALSTAFF at Teatro Real in Madrid.

In January 2003, he debuted at Teatro San Carlo in Naples LA BATTAGLIA DI LEGNANO with a huge success with audiences and critics. In 2003, Zubin Mehta has called him to the Staatsoper in Munich to sing FALSTAFF, and after the great summer festival Oper für Alle in which he is acclaimed by a crowd of some 40,000 persons.

For this performance he won twice the Critics Prize Rosenstrauss. That summer he debuted with great success, the title role of NABUCCO at Arena di Verona then he sang in SIMON BOCCANEGRA at Teatro Regio of Turin for the opening season 2003 / 04.
Among others successes can be reported FALSTAFF at the Staatsoper in Wien (under the baton of Fabio Luisi), LA FORZA DEL DESTINO at Covent Garden conducted by Antonio Pappano, AIDA at the Metropolitan Opera under the baton of Marcello Viotti, SIMON BOCCANEGRA under the baton of Zoltan Pesk at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, LA TRAVIATA at Arena of Verona and IL TROVATORE at Teatro San Carlo in Naples.

During the 2008/09 season, he sang in IL TROVATORE in Bilbao, RIGOLETTO at Opéra Bastille in Paris, UN BALLO IN MASCHERA and LA TRAVIATA at the Hamburgische Staatsoper, FALSTAFF and NABUCCO at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, AIDA at Wiener Staatsoper and at Arena di Verona. He also debuted with great success in the role of Scarpia in TOSCA at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago.

He recently sang FALSTAFF at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Wiesbaden and Royal Opera House in London, L'ELISIR D'AMORE at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and at the Wiener Staatsoper, SIMON BOCCANEGRA at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, PAGLIACCI and AIDA at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, FALSTAFF in Zurich, NABUCCO and AIDA with the Arena di Verona.

Future engagements include FALSTAFF at Teatro alla Scala, at the Metropolitan Opera, Paris, Munich and Salzburg, TOSCA in Florence and Berlin, Trittico in Bilbao, CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA and PAGLIACCI in Vienna and New York, L'ELISIR D'AMORE in Vienna, Munich, London, New York and Paris.
