Graduated at the Conservatory of Verona, he also attended the Accademia Lirica in Mantua (1981-82) and specialized in the Verdian repertory with Carlo Bergonzi, his most important teacher. A winner of various international competitions, in 1998 he made his operatic debut in Un Ballo in maschera in Parma.
His career has since than taken him to many of the major opera houses and orchestras around the world, such as Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Regio di Parma, Arena di Verona, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Teatro Real in Madrid, Opernhaus in Zürich, Megaron in Athens and RAI Auditorium in Turin, with a repertory including Attila, La Traviata, Il Trovatore, Un Ballo in maschera, Aida, Rigoletto, Macbeth, Otello, La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, Cavalleria rusticana, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Faust and Werther.
He opened the 2010/11 season performing with a huge success Roberto Devereux (Duca di Nottingham) at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, followed by Andrea Chénier (Gérard) at the New National Theatre in Tokyo, Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci at the Teatro Massimo “V. Bellini” di Catania, Rigoletto (title role) at the Opéra de Montpellier, I due Foscari in Las Palmas, Tosca (Scarpia) at the Wiener Staatsoper.
Among his future plans include Il Trovatore (Conte di Luna) at the Opera de Mahon in Menorca, La Forza del destino (Don Carlo) at the Wiener Staatsoper and Francesca da Rimini (Giovanni) at the Opéra de Montecarlo.
